The dollar coins I ordered have arrived. They came in such an incognito manner — in a plain brown box, with an unrevealing return address, with markings that didn’t even make the carrier clear — that at first I didn’t recognize the package. (250 one-dollar coins weigh about as much as your average brick, and take up roughly the same volume. So when you pack them into a small box, that means the box is heavier than, say, a book, but not so much heavier that you’d go “oh, right that must be my box full of money.”) I had to tear it open to remember what was inside.
So I started the last few days by dropping a roll of dollar coins into my pocket — and I love it! They’re shiny new just-minted coins, and people in stores love taking them, although sometimes they’re not exactly sure where in the cash drawer to drop them. No one has given me a remotely suspicious look. They’re definitely more fun to pay with than filthy paper. All the cool countries are switching to coins. And I’m helping to save America!
